Polisi Joseph William Polisi (born 1947) is the president of The Juilliard School, a position he has held since 1984 which he assumed upon the death of his predecessor, Peter Mennin.〔()〕〔http://www.juilliard.edu/press/polisi.html〕 Son of William Polisi (bassoonist of the New York Philharmonic), he was instrumental in the construction of Juilliard's Meredith Willson Residence Hall, and has focused his tenure on "community building". He is the author of ''The Artist as Citizen'', a book which implores the classical music world to reach out to society at large. == Education == Joseph Polisi received a B.A. in political science from the University of Connecticut and subsequently received a M.A. in international relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, at Tufts University. He holds graduate degrees from Yale University in music where he completed a Ph.D. of Musical Arts in 1980. Joseph studied the bassoon with his late father and performed through his undergraduate years, and additionally studied with Maurice Allard at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1973-74.
